Runway 12L/30R - North Parallel Runway Reconstruction Project

The below flight track maps are based on actual radar flight tracks showing flights that occurred during the south parallel runway reconstruction project (Aug. - Oct. 2007, with the exception of Runway 12R/30L tracks) Runway usage and actual flight paths can vary on a daily basis due to several factors (wind, weather, pilot technique, etc.). The local Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control Tower (ATC) is solely responsible for decisions regarding runway and airspace usage.

- From mid-August to late-October the runway will be shut down and unavailable for landings and takeoffs. Aircraft that would have typically used this runway will be shifted to the airport’s remaining three runways. The temporary change in flight paths, and the use of the three remaining runways, will be similar to what occurred in 2007 when the south parallel runway (12R/30L) was temporarily closed for reconstruction. Actual runway use will depend on several variables, including wind speed and direction, and other weather conditions and ATC is solely responsible for decisions regarding runway and airspace usage.

Areas where operational patterns will be noticeably different from normal runway operations are areas north of MSP in Minneapolis, which are in the approach path to Runway 17, and areas in St. Paul to the northeast of MSP, which are in the approach path to Runway 22. Residents living north of Runway 17 in Minneapolis will observe a change from existing conditions during the closure of the runway for reconstruction, primarily as a result of arrival operations on Runway 17. Similarly, residents living in St. Paul will observe a change from existing conditions during the two-month reconstruction of the runway primarily as a result of arrival operations on Runway 22.
