NOC Resolution Supports Implementation of RNAV STARs/OPD ProceduresPosted on March 11, 2014
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) unanimously approved a resolution supporting Area Navigation (RNAV) Standard Terminal Arrival Route (STAR) implementation providing Optimized Profile Descent (OPD) procedures at MSP. The NOC stated that further consideration of RNAV departure procedures must be structured in a way that incorporates community outreach efforts, as was communicated to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer Jeff Hamiel in February 2013. The NOC action was taken during a special meeting held by NOC members on March 6, 2014 as a result of the FAA's recent determination that it would move ahead with publishing RNAV arrival procedures as proposed in 2012, but that partial implementation of RNAV departure procedures would impose "unacceptable safety risks."
