Community Outreach
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) has a long history of commitment to and involvement with the airport's neighboring communities in the arena of aviation noise.Community/Industry Noise Abatement Group
For over 30 years, the MAC has supported and sponsored a community-industry noise abatement group. Beginning in 1969 with the Metropolitan Aircraft Sound Abatement Council, and now through the MSP Noise Oversight Committee, a number of noise abatement policies and procedures have been implemented at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP).Federal Aviation Administration
The MAC also works closely with the local, regional and national Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); a critical relationship for the furthering of aircraft noise reduction.Runway 17/35
In 2005 and 2006, a large part of the Noise Program's community outreach efforts focused on the opening of Runway 17/35. As part of a comprehensive public information campaign, the MAC Aviation Noise Programs office:- worked cooperatively with local city governments to inform residents of the runway's opening and its expected impacts on residents
- produced and distributed over 1,500 videos and 10,000 brochures
- gave over 50 presentations to residents, realtors, city councils and school boards
- published Runway 17/35 updates and articles on the Web and in the quarterly MSP Noise Newsletter
- held four public input meetings
