NOC Meeting Held on May 18, 2016Posted on May 13, 2016
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) is an advisory board to the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), and is comprised of industry and community representatives who address aircraft noise issues associated with activity at MSP. The group meets bi-monthly on the third Wednesday of odd-numbered months.
The most recent meeting was held on May 18, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) General Offices. During the meeting, NOC members reviewed data for MSP aircraft operations during March and April 2016, including compliance with the Eagan-Mendota Heights Crossing-in-the Corridor noise abatement procedure and evaluated turboprop aircraft operations in the corridor.
NOC members also took action to add two new work plan items based on feedback provided from members of the public who attended the most recent MSP Public Input Meeting, which was held in St. Louis Park on April 27, 2016. The first of these new work plan items is an analysis of MSP Runway 12L and 12R arrival activity over cities to the northwest of the airport; the second newly-added work plan item is an evaluation of landing gear extension for aircraft arriving on MSP Runways 12L and 12R.
At the meeting, Delta Air Lines shared an announcement that 82 new Airbus A321 aircraft currently being delivered come equipped with vortex generators. Vortex generators help reduce high-pitched arrival noise beyond six miles from the airport by improving air flow under the wings.
Additionally, the NOC was briefed on the new process being undertaken by the MAC for Noise Program Community Engagement Enhancements. More information about the new NOC work plan amendments, Delta’s vortex generators and the Noise Program Community Engagement Enhancements will be discussed at the upcoming MAC Planning, Development, and Environment (PD&E) Committee meeting on June 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Click here for MAC PD&E meeting details: MAC Board Meeting Schedule.
