Noise Oversight Committee Elects New Co-ChairsPosted on July 30, 2013
At the July 17 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) meeting, Representative Jeff Hart (Delta Air Lines) and Representative Elizabeth Petschel (Mendota Heights City Council) were elected by their fellow representatives to serve as the committee's co-chairs.
Community co-chair Vern Wilcox (City of Bloomington), who served in that position for the past 12 years, expressed his appreciation for the support and the hard work of the NOC members during his time as co-chair before indicating his retirement from elected office, including from the NOC.
Petschel, a founding member appointed by the City of Mendota Heights in 2002, said she "believes in this group" and is proud of the work it has accomplished over the years. She said the NOC works best when it is working with respect and courtesy, and on problem-solving initiatives. Hart was appointed by Delta Air Lines and has served on the committee since 2011.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) established the MSP NOC in August 2002 with a mission to bring community and aviation industry representatives together to dialogue about noise issues at MSP, and to bring airport noise policy recommendations to the MAC.
The cities of Minneapolis, Richfield, Bloomington, Eagan and Mendota Heights each have one representative on the NOC. The cities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Inver Grove Heights, St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Sunfish Lake, and Edina are represented through an At-Large member.
An aviation industry member represents each of the following: scheduled air carrier, cargo air carrier, charter/scheduled operator, chief pilot of an airline serving MSP, the Minnesota Business Aviation Association (MBAA) and at-large airport stakeholders/users.
Members of the public are welcome to attend NOC meetings, which are held every other month. Meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. at the MAC's General Office building. For more information, visit www.macnoise.com/our-neighbors/msp-noise-oversight-committee
