Noise Oversight Committee 2014: A Year of Significant AchievementsPosted on January 7, 2015
It was another productive year for the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Noise Oversight Committee (NOC). Highlights for 2014 include endorsement of the Area Navigation (RNAV) Standard Terminal Arrival Procedures , which will be implemented by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in March 2015; and the NOC’s cohesive commitment regarding the categorical exclusion of environmental review for RNAV procedures, requesting “that the FAA return to Congress and seek clarification on the legislative intent.”
Another notable accomplishment is its work to establish a baseline for aircraft noise through mobile noise monitoring conducted in the cities of Edina and St. Louis Park.
A guest speaker series began in 2014; at each meeting, experts shared extensive knowledge about their various areas of expertise. Topics included: Innovations in Aircraft Design, Network and Schedule Planning, Air Traffic Control 101, Sound Level Measurement, and several others.
